My purpose here is not to tell you what you absolutely should or should not do with your build. Note, the specific build of your ice controller should, and probably will be different from the ones I lay out at the end of the guide. As of the writing of this guide, I have a level 50 ice/empathy controller and a level 40 ice/kinetics controller, so in addition to having way too much time on my hands, I also feel I have a pretty good understanding of the ins and outs of ice control. I’m only here to tell you my experiences with each, and help you down the road if you decide to go with one or the other (or both like the psychopath author of this guide ). I’m not in a position to tell you which secondary is better than the other one. That’s not even mentioning what these buffs can do for teammates. Using these three things, you can make your pets, once you get them, into killing machines. Your main strength lies in your buffs, mainly Speed Boost, Fulcrum Shift and Siphon Power. Sure, you get a heal, but whatever you heal needs to be close in with your target due to the way kinetics works. Kinetics is much more of a buffing power set than a healing one, if you want to think of it like that. Control should be job #1, in my opinion, and my slotting reflects this. A secondary for a controller is just that, a secondary. an empathy controller, on the other hand can prevent that damage before it occurs and then heal only when needed. Your teammates have to take damage in order for you to heal them. An empathy defender, by their nature is reactionary. Empathy controllers are a whole different thing from an empathy defender. Their buffs and heals are stronger, and it might be more geared towards what you are trying to do. A lot of people out there choose empathy because they want to be a healer, however if primarily healing/buffing is what you want to do, I would definitely recommend looking into creating an empathy defender. In addition to the heals, you get some solid buffs in Fortitude, Clear Mind and Adrenalin Boost. You have a total of 3 healing powers at your disposal, and 2 powers which increase health regeneration rate. Empathy is definitely the most healing oriented secondary available to a controller. Its very easy for an ice controller to take a group of villains, bring them down to the slow cap and keep them there.įirst of all, a general description of both power sets. For example, if you miss a mob with glacier, he still might get slowed down. All of Ice’s control powers have a –SPD and –Recharge component to them, which sometimes applies even if you miss with the hold. Its easy to tell when an ice controller has something held, due to the large block of ice the target is set in. Ice control is team friendly, with large, very visible hold effect graphics and a smart pet with a small agro radius. It just has a good balance of both hard and soft controls. That’s not to say ice can’t be played as if it were a hard control set. Instead of having to hard lock down every mob in the group, we use our powers of knockdown and slow to prevent the mobs from firing at us and our teammates. Ice is less of a hard control set like mind or gravity is and leans more towards the softer side of the spectrum. Lets start with a general overview of the Ice primary. And since this guide didn’t have enough stuff in it before…here we go This guide originally started off as an Ice/Empathy controller guide, however, recently, I have played an Ice/Kinetics controller up to a high enough level (40, if you were wondering) that I can comment on that secondary as well.
